How to create a bulletproof blueprint

What is a bulletproof blueprint?


When you are caught in the diet cycle it can feel like the world is conspiring against you. You start a healthy eating regime that relies on organization, control and knowing what each new day will bring. You start hitting the gym everyday and then something happens to make you miss a couple of days. Can you relate? I know I can. I remember actively thinking that the world was going to make it impossible for me to lose weight. Being healthy had to be something that was reserved for other people! Something ALWAYS got in the way eventually!


This is one of the main reasons why diets don’t work and we can’t sustain them. Life gets in the way! Then we feel guilty because we failed. The truth is that YOU didn’t fail, the diet FAILED YOU! Life is always going to be there to interfere with your healthy plans so one of the things I do with all my clients is to come up with a healthy lifestyle blueprint that is bulletproof, while also being life-proof.


Finding a way of eating and exercising that is fast and flexible is key to your weight loss success. If you are going to lose weight, you don’t want to gain it all back once you stop your healthy eating, do you? It is about finding a way of creating your healthy lifestyle that fits in with YOUR life and not just creating a set of rules! We all know what happens when we give ourselves rules. Rules are made to be broken right?


Realising that life isn’t against you can go a long way to nurturing your motivation. When you diet, you are working against life rather than life working against you! Your healthy eating and exercise plan has to be as flexible and dynamic as life itself. It can work with you and not against you. You don’t need willpower to get through a bespoke healthy blueprint because you know where you are going and exactly how to get there.


I want you to create your own bulletproof blueprint. Here are some things to consider:


  • How do you want you healthy lifestyle to look and feel?
  • What foods do you want to be able to eat?
  • What foods do you hate but only eat because someone told you they are healthy?
  • How often do you want to eat?
  • How often do you want to exercise?
  • What exercise do you wish you never had to do again?


Start to list what you do and don’t want in your new healthy lifestyle. Be as detailed as you can. Picture it in great detail.


Start a journal and start to create your future healthy lifestyle. This does take time but it will be worth it. If you know exactly what you want you can plan exactly how to get it.


Think about the ‘life’ stuff that gets in the way, such as time, money, health or other commitments. After all, if you don’t take these into account and figure out how to plan around them then your plan isn’t going to work!


Finally, when you are creating your bulletproof healthy lifestyle it is important to plan for how you will handle the curveballs. We all know they are going to happen so knowing which ones are likely to throw you off and why is key to your success. In my own case I decided to not worry about it. I knew I was going to have good weeks and bad weeks so I made a plan for the bad ones! Times when you are sick, someone else needs you more, when you are fed up, too tired…. Whatever it is, make a plan. I decided not to allow myself to feel guilty for being too tired or having the flu for example.


Once you create a clear picture of your future healthy lifestyle and how it will work, it is a whole world easier to put the steps in place to carry it out.


Life is always going to get in the way, things will always come up at the last minute. How you deal with those moments will change your life!
